The Nervous System - The BRAIN


One of the major parts of the nervous system is your brain!  You need to understand the three major parts of the brain: 1) Cerebrum, 2) Cerebellum and 3) Brain Stem (or Medulla) and what they do.  


1. Go to the following links from page 38 of The Usborne Complete Book of the Human Body by Anna Claybourne.  Explore the list of links there.  Enjoy the 3-D brain activity!


2. Read (or listen to) pages 1-2 of this article.  


3. Write a comment below:
a) Name the three major parts of the brain
b) Name one thing that each of those parts does or controls.
c) Your initials or first name.

  1. The Cerebrum is a part of your brain that helps you think and controls your voluntary muscles. The Brain Stem helps you breath, digest and controls your involuntary muscles. The Cerebellum keeps your balance and helps your muscles work together.

  2. The 3 major parts of the brain are the cerebrum, brain stem and the cerebellum. The brain stem connects the brain to your spinal cord and holds the brain up. The cerebrum thinks, even when you are sleeping. It is the biggest part of your brain. The cerebellum helps you balance like when you are surfing.

    The cerebrum is the biggest part of the brain and his job is to think.
    The job of the cerebellum is to help your balance and keep you still.
    the brain steam helps you to breathe so you will not die.

  4. The cerebrum is the largest part of the brain. This part of the brain is responsible for thinking. It controls the voluntary muscles.
    The cerebellum is responsible for balance, movement and coordination.
    The brain stem controls many of the automatic actions of the body like breathing, heart beat and digesting food.It connects the brain to the spinal cord and the rest of the body.

    Cerebrum is the biggest part of the brain,that makes you think and move.
    Cerebellum is smaller than cerebrum and it controls balance,movement,and coordination.
    Brain Stem it connects the rest of the brain to the spinal cord.It controls breathing,digestion, and blood circulation.

  9. The cerebellum controles your balance. When you are a baby your cerebellum is not so developed so if you walk you would mabye loose your balance and fall!

  11. The three main parts of the brain are Cerebrum, Cerebellum, and Brainstem. The Cerebrum has nerve centers that help thoughts, senses, personality and movement. The Cerebellum helps with balance, precise movements, and posture. The brainstem helps with digestion, breathing, and heart rate.
